Food Safety

It’s no surprise to anyone connected with the food industry that consumers are taking more and more interest in where the ingredients of their next meal are coming from.

We can help trace that path for them.

With our new food safety and traceability initiatives, we are at the forefront of this issue and are developing easy-to-use materials that can be used by our customers as consumer-assurance tools.

We are already able to easily track our fruits and vegetables back to individual suppliers and, more often than not, actual farms. This is essential in the event of a recall to be able to identify the lot, contain it and minimize the impact on the industry and on the consumer.

Our suppliers and customers alike know when they trust Gambles, they are partnering with a leading-edge company that ensures the tests, controls and records are in place to guarantee high levels of food safety.

HACCP

Gambles Ontario Produce is working toward becoming a HACCP-accredited company. The acronym stands for Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points, but what it means is more important than the lengthy moniker.

HACCP food safety programs were developed to reduce the risk of food-borne illnesses. Through a twelve-step process, HACCP identifies critical control points (CCPs) that control or eliminate chemical, physical, or microbiological food-safety concerns.

Gambles is looking forward to participating in a rigorous audit of our programs and protocols before being awarded the certification. Ongoing accountability to the program will provide us with yet another level of credibility and confidence to offer our suppliers and customers.

American Institute of Bakery (AIB)

Similarly, AIB International is committed to protecting the safety of the food-supply chain worldwide and providing high-value technical programs.

Every year we are tested and approved by AIB’s high food-safety standards. We are proud of our recent “Excellent” rating.
