Job Description

 

The Jr. IT Specialist is a six month contract opportunity and will report directly to the Director of Finance and IT.

 

This position is a 6-month contract role (with possibility of extension) which provides top-notch technical support to both locations of our business (165 The Queensway, Etobicoke and 302 Dwight Ave., Etobicoke). Our ideal candidate is eager to learn and develop into a more senior position on the IT team.

 

The Jr. Information Technology Specialist provides analysis, design, configuration, testing, implementation, and documentation for software that includes or supports operating systems, file and application servers, databases, and network environments. Working closely with our employees, the Jr. Information Technology Specialist examines existing business models and flows of data, discusses their findings, and recommends an appropriate IT solution.

 

Although the primary schedule for this individual is 40 hours per week, Monday – Friday, our ideal candidate can work a flexible schedule in order to accommodate the needs of the business which may include occasional evenings and weekends.

 

Responsibilities

  • Communicate with staff for IT related support in person, over the phone, by email or using remote access
  • Perform after hours support to end-users based on department SLAs (Service Level Agreement)
  • Use a ticketing system to track, escalate, follow up and resolve issues reported by users
  • Manage, diagnose and resolve computer issues including installing or updating hardware, software, and operating systems on desktop computers and laptops
  • Administer user accounts such as usernames and passwords for users and account reset requests, as required
  • Administer and enforce IT policies and procedures
  • Support IT team in managing and administering various IT hardware and software
  • Support network infrastructure by assisting in configuring and troubleshooting issues
  • Introduction to database environments and SSRS Reporting utilized at Gambles
  • Create and maintain documentation of implemented systems via an internal repository (Confluence)

 

Candidate Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with common database architectures (MS SQL, MySQL, Postgres, etc.)
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft products (Office, Server, Exchange, etc.)
  • Competent knowledge with using end-user OS (Operating Systems) such as Windows OS, Mac OS, Linux OS
  • Demonstrated knowledge of running CLI (command line interface) commands
  • Experience in end-user support such as hardware and software troubleshooting of laptops and desktops
  • Solid understanding of security (maintaining a highly secure operating environment)
  • Understanding of networking concepts (TCP/IP routing, IP addressing, VLANs, ACL, etc.)
  • Working knowledge of programming such as PowerShell, Python, PHP, JavaScript
  • Knowledge of Cloud technologies/providers including Microsoft Azure and AWS
  • Demonstratable ability to write technical documentation for both end users and peer technicians
  • Understanding of Active Directory user account management an asset.
  • IT-related certifications (e.g. MCSE, CCNA, AWS) an asset

  • Ability to analyze and digest information collected from customers and stakeholders to determine underlying needs and requirements
