This position will be responsible for completing produce inspections, providing inspection details to the sales team and providing support our ripening team. Since produce is highly perishable, you will be working in a fast-paced environment. Your ability to verify the quality and condition of produce items to determine if products meet CFIA/USDA standards will help assure the quality and freshness of inbound and outbound shipments to retail and foodservice customers. This role functions out of our Calgary Distribution Centre, located at 110 – 5675 58 Ave SE, Calgary, Alberta. This role requires flexibility to work early mornings and weekends.   Key Responsibilities

• Maintain and enforce Gambles’ quality specifications
• Perform and report quality assessments during live inbound receiving
• Follow up on items that have been received and put-away but have not yet undergone quality control
• Outbound quality control checks for select customers
• Fulfill quality-reporting requests (e.g., photos, weight, size, average counts, etc.)
• Review the cooler checklist daily to identify and report sub-par product for disposition
• Handle #2/rejection/return assessments, reporting, and related processes (e.g., transfers and RTS coordination)
• Third-party inspections
• Coordinate CFIA inspections as required
• Provide support and coverage to the Ripening team as needed

Candidate Requirements Qualifications and Personal Attributes:

• Post-secondary education in food science, natural science and/or agriculture
• Knowledge, prior experience, and familiarity with CFIA grading standards and produce specifications are considered an asset
• Strong English communication skills (written and verbal)
• Ability to lift 50lbs and work in a warehouse environment
• Intermediate computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Word
• Familiarity with use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
• Familiarity with the Occupational Health and Safety Act
• Strong organizational and time-management skills
• Self-starter who identifies priorities and takes initiative
• Flexible and adaptable in an ever-changing environment
• Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills
• Ability to manage priorities and meet deadlines

This position will support our Buying team to build relationships with customers and suppliers while representing the Gambles brand. This individual will work primarily out of the Ontario Food Terminal location but will require the ability to travel to our 302 Dwight Ave. location regularly. Although the primary schedule for this individual is 40 hours per week, Monday – Friday, our ideal candidate can work a flexible schedule to accommodate the needs of the business which may include occasional evenings and weekends.   Responsibilities

• Understudy to a buyer(s) with primary functions, including issuing of POs to our suppliers, follow-up with Operations on issues, and communication to Sales on availability of product
• Use your skills to provide analytical thinking and trending analysis on revenue, volume, and margin
• Liaison with assigned suppliers to obtain product information such as price, availability, and market conditions
• Take the lead on minimizing shrinkage/spoilage of fresh fruits and vegetables; work with buyers on quality and quantity issues; and lead time for orders
• Using historical information, discuss strategies with our buyers to help communicate favorable sales opportunities to sales groups

  Candidate Requirements Qualifications:

• Strong analytics background, with an intermediate level of Excel
• Entrepreneurial spirited, business background and strength with numbers
• Very good computer skills with previous experience using an ERP system
• Knowledge and understanding of Microsoft Office 365
• College diploma or University degree would be an asset
• Produce knowledge and experience would be an asset
